Shopping districts

With more than 520 shops, including well known high streets names and independent retailers, as well as an iconic shopping mall, Plymouth City Centre offers the best range of shops in the region.

Visitors to the city centre can enjoy the shops seven days a week with many opening on Sundays.  Many of the city’s shops also stay open until 8pm on Thursdays, giving people even more opportunity to browse and buy at their convenience.

Plymouth’s shopping districts offer wide-open traffic-free spaces, colour, landscaped planting and seating areas, outdoor cafes and a wealth of shops, making Plymouth’s shopping experience one the whole family can enjoy.

Key shopping areas include:

Armada Way -the main pedestrian boulevard link from the mainline train station to the magnificent Hoe and waterfront.  here you’ll discover the Armada Centre, where you will find a major food store and a host of other fine shops.

New George Street and Cornwall Street - these two pedestrianised streets run the length of the city centre and are a must for all your favourite high street brands as well as being home to our three major department stores and more than 100 independent and specialist retailers.

Mayflower Street – another hub of quality independent retailers, this street is all about life and style, boasting some of Plymouth’s finest men’s outfitters and specialist music shops.  It’s also the place to go to get a fantastic new look with some of Plymouth’s best hairdressing salons and great selection of small independent shops selling gifts and accessories for every occasion.

The Barbican - Plymouth's Historic Quarter, features many independent retailers with a particular focus on the Arts & Crafts, for which Plymouth has gained a well deserved first class reputation. It is also the home of Plymouth Gin, one of the world's leading brands and major tourist attraction in its own right.  The barbican is also the place to go for year round alfresco dining in any of the many restaurants, cafes and bars which are situated around the magnificent quayside.

Plymouth is a real hub of retail activity as well as being one of the most scenic cities in the UK, with the stunning pedestrianised and landscaped Armada Way that stretches to Plymouth’s historic Hoe and world famous Barbican Plymouth is a shoppers’ paradise.
