Plymouth boasts an extensive year round festivals and events programme - so whether you are seeking music, theatre, food, sport - there really is something for everyone. The Plymouth Summer Festival highlights the national, international and popular events taking place between May and September. The National Fireworks Championships in August draws crowds of over 100,000 around Plymouth Sound on two consecutive nights.

Now in its third year the Barbican International Jazz & Blues Festival brings together leading artists from Europe and America at a variety of venues throughout the historic Barbican – and many of the events are free.
Every year Plymouth hosts prestige sailing events – some of a global standard. The bi-annual Fastnet traditionally closes Cowes Week and finishes in Plymouth. Transatlantic races are an almost annual event – no surprise given our history. For the last 10 years Plymouth has hosted International Power Boat events in Plymouth Sound. From the Honda Powerboat series to the glamorous F1 Class and Round Britain Powerboat race – Plymouth has provided the vital stage.
With both Football and Rugby teams vying to get into the elite divisions and a championship winning Basketball team Plymouth is never short of quality sporting events throughout the year.
