British Firework Championships

The most anticipated event in the city's annual events calendar returns in 2014

What's On

Plymouth has one of the best event programmes in the country, with year round fun for all the family. This year looks to be even bigger and better than before with new and returning events set to attract even more visitors to the city and waterfront.

New for 2014 is the La Solitaire du Figaro race on 11-15 June. Thousands of sailing enthusiasts are expected to descend on Plymouth when the city hosts this top international sailing race, generally recognised as the World Championships of single handed sailing and with our very own Sam Goodchild competing to see if he can better his 8th place from last year.

As well as commemorating the start of World War 1 in August, we will once again be holding Armed Forces Day on Plymouth’s Hoe on the 28 June.

MTV will be ‘crashing’ Plymouth Hoe this July to stage a spectacular live music event featuring a number of headline music acts.

MTV Crashes Plymouth will be the centrepiece of the city’s ‘Three Towns’ centenary celebrations, marking 100 years since Devonport, Plymouth and Stonehouse joined to form Plymouth as it is known today.

Flavour Fest returns on the 15-17 August. It is the largest free food festival in the South West and showcases the best of regional produce alongside demonstrations and food theatre from some of the top names in cooking. Every August the event attracts over 150,000 visitors to Plymouth.

Returning on the 12-13 August The British Firework Championships is Britain’s most spectacular fireworks display.  Plymouth’s Hoe offers the perfect viewing platform for this truly incredible sight which takes place across two summer evenings.

The Plymouth Ocean City Festival returns in September. The festival aims to raise awareness, nationally and internationally, of Plymouth’s role as a leading UK marine city, for research, leisure, heritage and local produce. The Plymouth Seafood Festival will again showcase the fantastic quality of the seafood available in Plymouth, both local and celebrity chefs will create a range of mouth-watering dishes from the catch of the day.
