Plymouth is the first city in the world to be awarded with the Fish2Fork Blue City status for its commitment to sourcing sustainable fish. This Seafood Festival will bring the Barbican and Sutton Harbour alive with entertainment, activities and fishy dishes to celebrate the city's fantastic locally caught seafood.
Centred in the Barbican and celebrating the entire Waterfront, come along to enjoy these great events:
Seafood, local produce, live family entertainment including music from the Tavy Tars Shanty Band, puppet shows, face painting and a sea themed colouring wall are just some of the things you will find here. Get hands on when filleting fish and admire The Clove tall ship docked in the harbour.
Jonty Depp (known to some as Captain Jack Sparrow) will also be amongst the crowd with other street performers and local fishermen will bring their catch in and tell their stories. Dan the fishman alongside his fish barrow, will be running free kids cookery fish workshops throughout the festival.
The cookery theatre stage will be at the heart of this year's Plymouth Seafood Festival with a packed programme of demonstrations. Head to The Parade where you will see local and celebrity chefs showcase the fantastic quality seafood available in Plymouth with a range of mouth-watering dishes using seafood fresh from the boats.
Dish of the Day
From Friday 26 to Sunday 28 September some of the best seafood cafes and restaurants in Plymouth's waterfront will be offering some of the freshest and more sustainable seafood dishes.
Catch of the Day
On Sunday 28 September local fisherman Ben Squire with Sid the Squid will be at The Parade explaining the speciies caught and the sustainable fishing methods used.
The Little Nippers Crabbing Contest
Check in at the Boathouse Cafe at 1pm on Sunday 28 September for the kids crabbing competition. Entrance fee is £6 and includes the crab line, bait and bucket. Official weigh in will take place at 3pm. Prizes will be awarded to the winner and the two runners up at the main stage.
If you can't make the weekend why not come a day earlier or stay a day later and experience a unique 'Sea to Plate' adventure with Graze&Flavour. This trail provides a rare opportunity to go behind the scenes at the Sutton Harbour Fish Market and meet the Harbour Master as he sets the scene for a day of fishing and tucking in your own catch.
