About us

Pleasant town on River Bovey, just outside National Park. Good walking and viewpoint at nearby Haytor. In 12thC De Tracey family acquired lands at Parke, the site of 19thC mansion (NT) now Dartmoor National Park Authority HQ. Hilltop church, fine granite building, Victorian restoration. William de Tracey built original church to expiate guilt for the murder of Thomas a Becket. Potteries established 1772, some of largest in west, hence bottle kilns, Pottery Road.
