Royal William Yard
Perched on the edge of the Tamar estuary where river meets the sea, Ocean Studios is situated in the middle of Royal William Yard. Constructed between 1825-1831, The Royal William Yard’s distinctive tall stone walls were once a military triumph but are now a jewel in Plymouth’s historic crown.
Ocean Studios is part of the Real Ideas campus (which includes the Devonport Guildhall and Market Hall), and home to many creative projects in the city. The courtyard contains vast murals painted by talented south west artists.
Inside the Real Ideas Café and Exhibition space, discover regularly changing exhibitions, a retail space containing locally made prints, gifts, and jewellery, and a really great cup of coffee.
If you’re looking to get creative yourself, why not sign up to a pottery throwing class, get inky in the print shops, capture the perfect shot in the photography suite, or stoke your inspiration by taking a tour of the resident artists’ studios?
Ocean Studios is also home to a co-working community and offers stunning brightly lit spaces perfect to help you get in the zone and get work done if you need a flexible workspace in the city.
There are also regular yoga slots, market events and artisanal bread on offer - if that’s more your style!
Heritage restrictions: Whilst Real Ideas work to ensure the building is fully accessible to all, access to Ocean Studios is limited by the heritage building and land in which we work. The listed building and historic location have certain constraints which unfortunately cannot be avoided or adapted.
