Innovation and experience are the buzz words for High Street retailers at the moment as they try to win back customers from online players.

And the same goes for the Plymouth City Centre Company.

The company, which runs the city centre Business Improvement District, is working hard to improve the look and feel of the city centre, improve the welcome to visitors and brighten up the streetscape.

Steve Hughes, the company’s chief executive, said: “We want to bring people back in to the city, to meet friends and family, stay awhile, watch or take part in our many events, as well as enjoying our shops and restaurants, and return again and again because it’s a nice thing to do.

“We have taken a big step in that direction with the creation of a large mural in the West End of the city to publicise the West End Carnival which takes place on Saturday August 31 in partnership with Plymouth Market which celebrates its 60th anniversary this year.”

Four talented street artists spent all day creating the brightly painted mural which attracted plenty of interest from traders and shoppers and symbolises our bold ambition for the city centre.

This is part of a wider programme of improvements for the West End, including the creation of a new brand and identity which will be coming soon.

Please pop down and see the mural in New George Street, opposite the market and let us know what you think. Would you like to see more work like this across the city?
