The Guided Tour

A 3 km walk which starts and ends at the Barbican, Plymouth’s historic Elizabethan seaport, on streets, many of which would still be recognisable to Sir Francis Drake and Sir Walter Raleigh and the ship’s company of the Mayflower. In England of the 1500’s, the seaport of Plymouth was buzzing with activity. With their experience of Atlantic crossings and global navigation the seafarers of Plymouth were the natural choice to command the Navy against the mighty Spanish Armada. This expertise made Plymouth the final departure point for the Mayflower’s journey to the New World in 1620.
