About us
Visit the hidden treasure of Thorn Gardens on the south-east facing banks of the River Yealm. This unique setting offers breathtaking views over the river and onwards towards Dartmoor.
The spectacular historical 9 acre garden, principally created by William Arkwright, holds a fascinating selecting of unusual mature trees and plants from around the globe. The architecture and vegitation have been heavily influenced over the last 100 years by an eccentric mix of owners and visitors, including the Prince of Wales who regularly visited in the late 1800's.
Private tours of the garden are available by appointment; including an optional Devon cream tea! Thorn also offers a wonderful venue for corporate events including weddings, garden parties, etc. Whatever your event, the garden is yours; with outstanding vistas through mature tree canopies down to the glistening river below, together with the sweetly scented rose garden bordered with immaculately trimmed hedges, and the romantic 'Long Walk' with a breathtaking view towards the mouth of the river.
Thorn House & Gardens is less than 30 minutes from Plymouth.
