Ahoy me’hearties – enjoy pirate themed fun this weekend!
6th May 2021
Plymouth Pirates Weekend is taking place virtually this weekend, from 8 to 9 May.
Run by Plymouth Waterfront Partnership (PWP), the event is happening in a different way for the second year in a row due to ongoing Covid-19 restrictions.
Families can enjoy a treasure trove of swashbuckling fun and entertainment thanks to online content on the Visit Plymouth website as well as an exciting trail to follow safely in-person.
The Diamond Treasure Trail will take you on an adventure across the waterfront, with ten colourful ‘diamonds’ to discover. The trail is available to follow on the Plymouth Trails app.
Diane Mansell, CEO of PWP said: “Just because we’ve been unable to deliver Plymouth Pirates Weekend the way we would normally doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy some wonderful activities at home, delivered by our amazing businesses.
“You can also support our local businesses and enjoy some family time by going on a treasure hunt across the Waterfront looking for clues and the ten hidden diamonds.”
There’s a huge range of online content to enjoy over the weekend, with lots of pirate themed fun including activity sheets, and a top pirate playlist to set the mood.
Children can get creative with the help of a video tutorial from the National Marine Aquarium showing how to make your very own treasure chest, as well as ideas for treasure to search for at home.
There’s entertainment for grown-ups too, with delicious cocktail making and cookery demonstrations demos from the Hook & Line, The Refectory Bar and Pier Masters
The history of Plymouth’s pirates is also explored with a fascinating talk by Dr Elaine Murphy, an Associate Professor of Maritime History at the University of Plymouth.
Additionally, there will be videos to watch of The Pelican of London, telling the story of the Darwin 200 Voyage which retraces the worldwide voyage of Charles Darwin, undertaking marine and conservation research projects.
