About us
Carol Gasser, Leader & saxophonist. Carol started playing the clarinet and saxophone at the age of 15. By her late teens she had started playing professionally with the famous Ivy Benson All Girls Band. She performed with this band between 1966 and 1971 on both tenor and lead alto saxes. In the 70's and 80's Carol moved to Plymouth and became a favourite playing jazz around the clubs, eventually joining the highly popular Rod Mason Band. Since moving to Cornwall, Carol has worked as a freelance musician and has played with the John Austin Big Band, The Fascinating Rhythm Dance Orchestra, The Roaring 20's and the Cornish SaxPak. Her acclaimed performance on her last visit to Plymouth Jazz Club in 2014 has prompted us to bring her back.Paul 'Bomber' Harris, keyboards, is well-known in the region as one of the Harris family of talented musicians and with drummer Dennis Harris they are frequently seen with Martin Dale in his Quartet and many other local groups.
The band is completed with Jim Rintoul on bass. Jim is fast becoming one of the most in-demand bassists in the West Country, playing in groups including with Pete Canter, Neil Maya, Craig Milverton, ex Loose Tubes saxophonist Steve Buckley & many more.
This will be a fascinating evening of jazz from a band led by a fondly remembered favourite of the Plymouth jazz fraternity.
