Mount Edgcumbe House & Country Park
Mount Edgcumbe is Plymouth’s green space by the sea. With ornate formal gardens and 865 acres of Grade 1 listed parkland. Situated on a peninsula with over 10 miles of breathtaking coastline this is one of the most astonishing public spaces in the UK.
A most beautiful place as ever was seen’ Samuel Pepys of Mount Edgcumbe 1683
Mount Edgcumbe is a place of ancient barrows, mystical woodland, forts and chapels dotted along a remote coastline, above secret beaches and smugglers’ coves. And yet it is only a short, but dramatic, foot ferry ride away on the Cremyll Ferry (that saw service in the evacuations of Dunkirk) across the mouth of the beautiful River Tamar.
Enjoy restaurants, shops, Mount Edgcumbe House and the family collection (admission fee applicable) – or just wander in a place that Horace Walpole described as having ‘the beauties of all other places added to peculiar beauties of its own’.
The Park is jointly owned and managed by Plymouth City Council and Cornwall Council and is open free of charge for the public to explore 365 days of the year.
