Activities & Tours

Taking a break doesn’t necessarily mean slowing down the pace, and for those looking for excitement and adventure Plymouth has plenty of exhilarating activities that will guarantee an action-packed stay.

If you love getting out and exploring the outdoors, Plymouth is the perfect base for exploring the Devonshire coast and rolling hills of nearby Dartmoor, either on foot, horseback or by bike.

Nothing beats getting your walking boots on and heading out for a stomp along the coast, and with the South West Coast Path right on your doorstep it’s an ideal opportunity for exploring the rugged beauty of the Devonshire cliffs.

Cyclists are well served with by the national cycle network, with the Devon coast-to-coast route running right through Plymouth into the Plym Valley and beyond. If you prefer to take in the sights with an equine companion, Dartmoor national park is just a short drive away, with plenty of opportunities for horse riding and pony trekking.

With its fantastic waterfront location, Plymouth has no shortage of things to do if you’re a water sports enthusiast. Plymouth Sound has hosted a number of high profile sailing events, including the America’s Cup, and has excellent cruising waters just waiting to be discovered. Boat owners can berth at one of Plymouth’s four harbours and venture further afield to the rivers Tamar and Yealm, or further down the Cornish coast with its picturesque fishing villages and coastal towns.

If you’d rather explore beneath the surface, there are dive clubs and charter boats that will take Scuba trips out to dive the wreck sites in and around the Sound. There are also sports centres which offer kayaking, windsurfing, coasteering, rock climbing and more – by the end of your visit to Plymouth you’ll be exhausted but it will definitely be a trip to remember!
