About us

The Mount Batten Watersports and Activities Centre is open all year round* and welcomes families, friends, individuals, businesses and schools to participate in many water and land based activities.

There’s a huge range of activities you can enjoy at the Mount Batten Watersports and Activities Centre. From sailing to stand-up paddleboarding, kayaking to school holiday activities, to simply enjoying coffee and cakes at The Lookout Take-Away with stunning views across the Cattewater, there’s something for everyone at the Mount Batten Centre.

The Centre commands stunning views looking out towards Plymouth’s historic Barbican area, the Hoe and across to Mount Edgcumbe. It is perfectly situated on the tidal estuary of The Sound, making it an ideal, and safe, location for the thousands of people, of all ages, that use the Centre each year – whether for recreational or professional use.

The Mount Batten Watersports and Activities Centre has a small, friendly, dedicated and highly experienced team, always on hand to ensure that visitors have an enjoyable time in a safe and welcoming environment. The Centre prides itself on its exemplary health and safety record.

The Centre runs two-hour try sessions in kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding which are the perfect opportunity for you to try something new. All equipment is provided – all you need to do is book your place online or by phone and then arrive at the Centre with a towel, suitable shoes and lots of enthusiasm!

The Centre also hosts Kayak Tours – explore Plymouth Sound from the water and see the city’s historical and picturesque waterfront from a different perspective.

The Lookout

Perhaps you enjoy walking the South West Coast Path – fantastic, The Lookout at the Centre is situated right on the path – enjoy take-away food and drink and take a seat outside the Centre with superb views of Plymouth Sound and waterfront or continue on your walk along the Mount Batten peninsula.

The Centre are proud to be one of Plymouth’s Plastic Free Pioneers and are continually working hard to reduce, and remove, single use plastic.

We want you to make your Mount Batten moments with us – to head home and tell your friends and family of the fun you’ve had, of the new experiences you’ve enjoyed and for those memories to last a lifetime.

Mount Batten Experience

Enjoy the Mount Batten Experience and ‘sea’ Plymouth from a different perspective. This three hour experience includes a private self guided tour of the iconic Mount Batten Tower, which proudly stands watch over the peninsula, followed by a two hour stand up paddleboarding session delivered in the safe and sheltered waters of the Cattewater Harbour.
