Plymouth: A City Investing in Its Future
Plymouth is entering an exciting period of transformation, with a £9 billion investment pipeline set to reshape the city over the coming years. More than £4.4 billion is being invested in HM Naval Base Devonport and Babcock’s Devonport Royal Dockyard over the next decade, alongside major investment in transport, housing, healthcare, the city centre, marine innovation and the Plymouth and South Devon Freeport. Plans also include the potential delivery of 10,000 new homes in and around Plymouth city centre, helping to create a more vibrant and connected city centre for residents, businesses and visitors.
For the conference and events sector, this investment creates a powerful opportunity. Plymouth is not simply a destination with exciting plans for the future – delegates can come to the city and see investment, innovation and regeneration happening first-hand. Major developments across defence, marine autonomy, advanced manufacturing, healthcare, transport and the green economy provide compelling themes for conferences and business events, while new infrastructure and facilities will continue to strengthen the city's offer. Plymouth's position as a National Defence Growth Area and the UK's National Centre for Marine Autonomy further strengthens its proposition for industry-led conferences.
Meet Plymouth can capitalise on this investment by positioning the city as a “destination of the future” for conferences and business events. Conference organisers could be offered bespoke programmes combining high-quality venues with site visits, industry presentations, innovation showcases, networking with local businesses and opportunities to explore major development projects. By connecting event organisers with Plymouth's business, academic and investment communities, the city can attract conferences that want to be at the forefront of emerging industries and economic change. Plymouth offers delegates the opportunity not just to hear about the future, but to experience a city that is actively building it.
