Road Directions
Pentillie Castle and Estate is located about 8 miles from Plymouth on the Tamar River. It is a straightforward 4 hour drive, or 3½ hour train journey from West London. Follow satnavs using the postcode PL12 6QD.
DRIVING FROM LONDON – Taking the A38 at Exeter signposted to Plymouth and Liskeard (do not take the A30 into Cornwall unless there is an accident on the A38). Cross the Tamar Bridge into Cornwall, keeping in the right hand lane towards Liskeard and the A38. The road passes through a tunnel and then up a long hill. Towards the top of the hill move into the right hand lane, and turn RIGHT at the roundabout, onto the A388 towards Callington and Launceston. Go straight across the next mini-roundabout and continue through Carkeel and out towards Hatt. Go straight across Hatt roundabout towards Callington. After 1.3 miles (from the Hatt roundabout), turn right, at a large road sign called Paynters Cross signposted to Cargreen and Landulph. As you turn off the main road, the lane jinks left and then right. As it turns to the right you will see the granite gateposts and entrance to Pentillie Castle straight in front of you. Drive through the granite gateposts, and follow the driveway ¾ mile to the Castle.
DRIVING FROM WEST & SOUTH CORNWALL – Take the A38 towards Saltash. After the Trerulefoot roundabout, you will pass through the villages of Tideford, Landrake and Notter Bridge. On the brow of the hill after Notter Bridge, turn left to Callington and A388. After ¾ mile, you come to a t-junction. Turn left towards Hatt. Go straight across Hatt roundabout towards Callington. After 1.3 miles (from the Hatt roundabout), turn right, at a large road sign called Paynters Cross signposted to Cargreen and Landulph. As you turn off the main road, the lane jinks left and then right. As it turns to the right you will see the granite gateposts and entrance to Pentillie Castle straight in front of you. Drive through the granite gateposts, and follow the driveway ¾ mile to the Castle.
DRIVING FROM NORTH CORNWALL – Take the A30 to Launceston. At Launceston turn onto the A388 towards Callington and Saltash. Drive through St. Mellion and go across the roundabout at the end of the village. Drive 1 mile (up a large hill, and start going down the other side!) then left at Paynters Cross signposted to Cargreen and Landulph. As you turn off the main road, the lane jinks left and then right. As it turns to the right you will see the granite gateposts and entrance to Pentillie Castle straight in front of you. Drive through the granite gateposts, and follow the driveway ¾ mile to the castle.

TRAIN – Plymouth is on the main London (Paddington) to Cornwall (Penzance) train line, about 3½ hours from London. Pentillie is only 25 minutes by car/taxi from the Plymouth station.
