Pirates Raft Race Terms and Conditions
All crew must be over the age of 18 on day of the race (Sunday 10th May). Proof of age may be required.
All crew must be able to confidently swim 50 metres in the event of capsize.
All crew must supply and wear their own Life Jacket or Personal Flotation Device. This must be always worn while on the water.
All crew are to wear footwear and appropriate clothing that can be waded/swam in.
No crew member is to consume alcohol or drugs prior to, or during the race.
Skippers and crew members are to obey and adhere to instructions given by Water Safety Officer or Safety Boats.
All rafts will need to be submitted for inspection by 14:30 on day of the race. Inspection will take place on Commercial Wharf, accessed via Elphinstone Car Park.
The following construction items are forbidden:
- Moulded glass or fibreglass hulls or pontoons
- Foam based plastic, or any material likely to break up/disintegrate upon contact with salt water.
- Fixed rowing stations – rafts must be paddled with no exterior attachment to raft
- Outboard motors, water pumps, water hoses or any other device capable of providing propulsion. All rafts must be manually powered.
- No sharp or pointed edges.
- Any containers used in construction must be free of contaminants.
All crews are to refrain from ramming, bumping, or taking part in any unsporting conduct towards other competitors.
Upon conclusion of race, all crews will be responsible for beaching their craft and retrieval of it from the water. All associated debris will be responsibility of crew to clear.
The organiser reserves the right to delay, modify or cancel the race for safety reasons.
