Rockets & Rascals

Rockets & Rascals is a Bicycle Emporium, based in the historic heart of Plymouth’s Barbican, where they serve up the finest coffee alongside the best bike brands.

The main store caters for everything from high-end road and mountain bikes through to fun affordable city cruisers.

Just open are the Little Rascals Cycle-hire depots at Commercial Wharf and Royal William Yard, you can take a bike for the day or just nip along the waterfront between sites before jumping on a passenger ferry to take in Plymouth’s amazing waterfront.

Join the staff on a led-ride, the Saturday morning Rocket Ride is there to slake the roadie’s need whilst Dirty Wednesdays take in the awesome local trails. For more information visit www.rocketsandrascals.com.

The National Trust

Venturing out from Plymouth by bike, the parkland and facilities at Saltram are one easy destination. Continuing on to Plymbridge there’s the new mountain bike trail, the Plym Ridge ride, and in summer you can pause at the peregrine viewing platform. Drake’s Trail (NCN27) also gets you out to Buckland Abbey with its 700 years of history, including Drake’s Drum. Cotehele’s tranquil estate is another cycling destination: laze on the quayside and visit the Tudor house perched high above the river Tamar.

Take your bikes over to Lanhydrock by car or train. Familiar as one of Cornwall’s largest country houses, it’s becoming rapidly known as a great new cycling destination. Lanhydrock’s cycling hub opened recently, with 10km of new off-road trails that link up with the Forestry Commission’s 15km in Cardinham Woods. A new café, bike hire, cycle skills area and balance-bike track complete the facilities.
