Plymouth’s Waterfront is sprinkling a little extra magic this Christmas

The Barbican businesses are preparing for a sparklingly special Christmas celebration this year. Preparations are taking place across the Barbican and Sutton Harbour as they get ready for the spectacular Christmas lights switch-on, which takes place on Sunday 26 November from 12pm to 5pm.
There will be traditional festive fun and entertainment throughout the afternoon for the whole family to enjoy.
Meet the Reindeer with Santa’s sleigh, along with the beautiful owls from Screech Owl Sanctuary. Radio Plymouth will be keeping the crowds entertained with their festive face painting, as well as hosting the spectacular stage performances. With a fabulous line-up of truly talented performances from local schools and community groups, they are sure to get everyone into the Christmas spirit!
The excitement will be building, as Santa prepares to make his big entrance. Along with his trusty Elf, they will be arriving by RNLI Lifeboat and will be turning on the Christmas lights at 4pm, with the Lord Mayor and the winners of the charity auction for The Keep Me Close Appeal, Annabel Starr aged 6 and Charlie Starr aged 4.
You won’t want to miss the beautiful 20 foot Christmas tree being lit up, it’s going to be magical!
Join in the festivities with the Best Dressed Elf Competition, Santa will be judging this event and the winner will receive a fabulous Christmas stocking full of prizes. This will take place by the stage following the lights switch on.
There are lots of Christmas activities and events taking place across the Waterfront, for everyone to enjoy. From the Barbican Theatre’s Christmas Carol Walking Tours, (see visitplymouth.co.uk for booking details) to the Snowflake Trail with some great prizes to be won, including a PlayStation 4.

A gorgeous Christmas market takes place at Royal William Yard on Saturday 2 December to Sunday 3 December, for some fabulous festive foodie treats and the Native Makers craft market takes place at the Royal William Yard on Saturday 16 December to Sunday 17 December.
