Plymouth set to enjoy double dose of Doctors at DEVCON
8th October 2018
The TARDIS, along with not one but two Doctors is set to land at Plymouth Guildhall on 13 and 14 October for DEVCON - a spectacular sci-fi, toy, film and comic fair.
DEVCON will welcome acclaimed actors Paul McGann (the eight Doctor), Colin Baker (the sixth Doctor) and John Altman, best known as Eastender's Nasty Nick. All three will be signing autographs for a fee and are keen to meet fans and enthusiasts of all ages. Visitors can have their photos taken with the actors, plus hear tales of working in the film industry.
The event also features over 100 traders selling everything from highly collectable comics and toys to clothing, shoes, jewellery and games.
Organiser Lea Shelford said: "This year we have the best selection of traders and hugely talented artist and art works on sale, that we’ve ever had, including lots of new and never seen stands, all selling goods at discount prices. The standard is so diverse and high, I’m really proud to have everyone on board with us.
"I am always in awe of the many hundreds of visitors who come dressed as their favourite comic or film super hero, some of the costumes are truly marvellous master pieces and take months of dedication and skill to craft, it’s a festival of colour and imagination.
"We welcome every one of every level to take part in Heat 1 of the ‘South West Cosplay Fancy Dress Competition’, which will be held in the Lower Guild Hall from 12pm – 5pm. For those who don’t want to be in the full spot light, there’s a Mini Masquerade that’s open for all to take part in and we encourage visitors of all ages and levels, to dress up and join the fun and fantasy, with a chance of great Prizes to be won. Come and have a go at our new Lip Sync Challenge. The Lower Hall will offer a day of great tutorials, Q&A’s and demonstrations, from a panel of Experts, who will be on hand to educate our visitors in Costume and Prop Making and all things ‘Cosplay’, there lots to learn and enjoy."
Steve Hughes, Chief Executive of Plymouth City Centre Company, said “DEVCON is a real draw for Plymouth, bringing lots of visitors into the city centre. This is a great opportunity for visitors to meet film and TV stars, collect memorabilia and see comic artists at work. Plymouth City Centre Company is delighted to support it.”
