Late-night Christmas shoppers can park for a pound in Plymouth
15th November 2018
Late-night shoppers will be able to park for just £1 from 3pm at Plymouth’s Western Approach car park in the run-up to Christmas.
Plymouth City Council is providing discounted parking every Thursday night to get people into the festive spirit and encourage them to see what the city centre – especially the West End – has to offer.
With the special rate applying from 3pm, families can head into the city centre straight from school to stock up on those Christmas goodies and join in the fun and entertainment.
The deal begins this Thursday to coincide with the city’s Christmas lights switch-on at the piazza in Armada Way, which starts at 4pm.
It follows the recent introduction of 190 additional parking spaces in the West End, by opening-up of the former Toys ‘R’ Us car park as well as creating extra spaces in other West End car parks – providing greater choice for shoppers, visitors and city centre workers.
Councillor Mark Lowry, Cabinet Member for Finance, said: “Late-night shopping is really important for traders in the run-up to Christmas, especially our smaller, independent shops. We’re really pleased to be offering this great deal, which we hope will encourage lots of shoppers into Plymouth and especially the West End.”
Steve Hughes, chief executive officer of the Plymouth City Centre Company, said: “We are delighted with the support of the Council in attracting more shoppers to the city centre and helping our retailers. We have more going on this Christmas than ever before, from our penguin Lego brick trail to fairground rides. With the Christmas Market, big brands and scores of local independent traders there really is something for everyone in Plymouth this Christmas.”
