New venue for wine lovers to open in Sutton Harbour
5th August 2018
A new establishment is set to bring a wealth of wine knowledge to Plymouth, and will be based right in the heart of Sutton Harbour.
HonkyTonk Wine Library is due to open in September at 1 Pinnacle Quay, on the edge of the historic Sutton Harbour waterfront in Plymouth, Britain’s Ocean City, overlooking the Marina. The wine lounge and deli will not only stock and sell a range of wines from across the world, but sell locally-sourced deli food and quality brands of coffee.
The new business is the brainchild of couple Fitz Spencer and Zoe Brodie, who hope that HonkyTonk Wine Library will become a hub for wine lovers from across the city.
Fitz has 30 years’ experience in the catering industry and has established strong relationships with wine retailers and makers worldwide. Zoe and Fitz hope the new venue will appeal to the local business community as well as people looking for a relaxed night out.
Fitz Spencer, co-owner of HonkyTonk Wine Library, said: “We want to educate people about the passion and hard work that it takes to get wine to your table, and we will be running tutored wine tasting sessions and even trips to different vineyards.
“We want HonkyTonk Wine Library to be a destination away from the hustle and bustle of the high street. Sutton Harbour is beautiful location and an amazing spot to come and have a quiet drink or a business meeting. It really was a no-brainer to open our business here, the location was so key for us.”
The entrepreneurial couple want the wine library to have a real community feel, with local people who like wine helping them to grow as a business.
They are already looking for volunteers to be involved in a wine committee, made up of local residents who will choose the pouring wines to feature on the wine by the glass section.
They are also planning to hold events including comedy nights, food and wine pairings, spirit evenings and more.
Mark Slade of Burton Knowles, letting agents for Sutton Harbour Holdings plc, said: “We are delighted to welcome HonkyTonk Wine Library to Sutton Harbour, and feel this imaginative new business will be a great asset to the area, helping to build on the waterfront’s reputation as a premier multi-faceted centre in Britain’s Ocean City.
“Alongside the amazing selection of wines on offer, the venue will be one of only very few delis operating in the area, and will bring something unique to Sutton Harbour and the surrounding area.”
The new venue follows a number of new openings in Sutton Harbour announced recently, including The Greek opening a Greek-themed eaterie at Quay Point by the Mayflower Steps and Daisy’s Tea Rooms and Coffee Shop opening at Pinnacle Quay.
HonkyTonk Wine Library is due to open in the second week of September following a fit-out of the interior, in the unit previously occupied by The Hidden Olive restaurant.
The owners plan two soft launches ahead of an official opening. There will also be several local wine tastings around the area prior to the launch.
