National Marine Aquarium celebrating women in STEM
5th September 2018
The National Marine Aquarium (NMA) is inviting guests to raise a glass to women who work in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths.
On 12th September the NMA will be hosting an inspirational evening celebrating women who work in STEM subjects and is opening the Aquarium late to the public to join them for a G&T to celebrate.
Nicola Bridge, Head of Discovery and Learning at the NMA and Emma Whittle, Senior Biologist and diver at the Aquarium join Dr Lorna Dallas, Chair of Women in STEM Plymouth, to talk about their lives and their careers.
All of the incredible women will be discussing the stereotypes and barriers they have faced within their respective industries.
Plymouth Gin has kindly provided gin for the evening. There will be a make-your-own gin cocktail station for guests and speakers to enjoy after the seminars.
Plymouth Gin will also be joining guests to explain the science behind gin making.
Nicola Bridge, Head of Discovery and Learning at the National Marine Aquarium said: “We are delighted to be hosting this event to celebrate women in STEM. Lorna is an incredible woman with a passion for the marine environment and we are privileged to host her at the NMA.
“We are very lucky to have many inspirational women who work here for us at the NMA and are looking forward to sharing their stories – we hope they inspire more women to work in STEM subjects.”
The £5 entry fee includes access to the NMA for the evening and a free gin cocktail (or non-alcoholic alternative).
Based in the UK, the NMA is a conservation education charity providing informal learning experiences to more than 300,000 people who visit its 4,000 marine animals every year.
As an educational and marine conservation charity, the NMA relies on visitor funds and donations to continue its mission to connect us with our oceans.
