Help build Plymouth’s own polar bear!
14th January 2019
As an extra exciting addition to the new Polar Bear Explorer winter trail, the Plymouth Waterfront Partnership Business Improvement District (BID) have commissioned two design makers from the Eden Project, Louise Thorn and Elly Voisin, to build a large recycled plastic Polar Bear sculpture at the National Marine Aquarium (NMA).
You can help to build the bear by donating any clean, white or clear recycled plastic items – for example, white carrier bags, clean milk bottles or clear plastic straws - to the NMA’s shop between 10am and 4pm from Monday 14 January until Friday 18 January.
The life size model is being built between Friday 18 and Sunday 20 January and will be on display at the Aquarium for the next 12 months. Visit the NMA during the build weekend for the chance to see the Polar Bear taking shape.
The Polar Bear Explorer trail has seen 20 life-size Polar Bear cubs hidden in shops, cafés, hotels and businesses across the Waterfront, from Sutton Harbour to Royal William Yard. Families are encouraged to find all 20 by 3 March for the chance to win one of 30 great prizes.
There’s an extra prize up for grabs for anyone who submits their entry form before 19 January too. One lucky Explorer will be chosen to name the plastic Polar Bear created at the NMA – as well as being entered into the main prize draw once the trail has finished.
