This summer, tennis fans are invited take to the green at the Royal William Yard to catch the Wimbledon action live on the city’s only big screen. Running from the 1 to 14 July, the Yard’s lawn will play host to a tennis extravaganza, complete with all the key matches screened live, deckchairs, plenty of Pimm’s and lashings of strawberries and cream throughout the tournament.
For those keen to get into the swing of things, a variety of tennis themed activities will be on offer throughout the Wimbledon weekends. Nuffield’s racquet coaches will be providing free tennis lessons on the lawn for the whole family to enjoy, taking place on the 6, 7, 13 and 14 July from 9am to 5pm. Alongside a range of pop up activities and free face painting, visitors can expect plenty of summer fun!
To truly bring the Wimbledon experience to Plymouth, themed refreshments will be available from some of the Yard’s restaurants. Visitors can sip Summer Spritzers, Cocktails and classic Pimm’s at Bistrot Pierre. Sweet and savoury options from the Small Plates menu will also be available and can be enjoyed on the terrace or benches on the lawn. The Yard’s independent wine lounge Le Vignoble, will be tempting tennis fans with plentiful portions of strawberries and cream, perfectly paired alongside a generous glass of Pimm’s and Lemonade or fine sparkling wine.
To celebrate the sporting action, Royal William Yard is also offering one lucky winner the opportunity to watch the Wimbledon Men’s Final match with a luxury Devon cream tea and prosecco hamper. Commencing on 1 July, those interested in entering simply need to visit the Yard’s Facebook page – RWY Royal William Yard @RoyalWilliamYd - and like and share the competition post to be in with a chance of winning. The winner will be announced on 8 July and will need to be available to collect the prize from Royal William Yard.

In addition to the tennis…
Whether a tennis enthusiast or a day visitor, Royal William Yard has something for everyone to enjoy throughout the Wimbledon season. Sunday 7 July will see the return of the popular Good Food and Craft Market, spread across the green from 10am to 3pm. Attracting some of the South West’s top crafted wares and the region’s finest food and drink, the July market is set to be better than ever with a host of additional pop up traders just for Wimbledon.
With the weekend set to be abuzz with artisan activity, Ocean Artists and Makers Market will be held on the 6 and 7 July from 10am to 4pm. An opportunity to meet artists and makers and peruse stunning handmade wares, visitors can expect a fresh and contemporary take on traditional crafts.
