Cornish museum reopens for unique private visits
3rd August 2020
After almost 5 months of closure, Bodmin Keep Army Museum will be reopening it doors to the public from 12 August on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. The museum is offering a unique pre-booked VIP private visit for groups of up to 12 people from two households.
Each group will have the museum entirely to themselves for an hour, plus use of the museum grounds for picnics.
Visitor Experience Manager Verity Anthony said: "The safety of our visitors, staff and volunteers is our priority so we’ve decided to open the museum for single groups of up to 12 people from a maximum of two households at a time. It will be rather a VIP experience, with groups welcomed at the gate by a member of our friendly team who will give them an introductory talk.
"Visitors will then be escorted into the museum where they will be able to safely enjoy exploring the galleries and afterwards, relax in the museum grounds and have a picnic if they wish. We hope that the visit will be popular with inter-generational family groups and there’s something for everyone in the museum. We’ll be trialling this offer for 4 weeks initially and are really looking forward to welcoming visitors again."
Visitors will be able to explore the whole museum which tells the story of the County Regiment, the Duke of Cornwall’s Light Infantry, and its predecessors and successors over 300 years of history. Arranged over two extensive floors, the collection takes you from Waterloo to World Wars 1 and 2, to Northern Ireland and the Fall of the Berlin Wall. There are displays of superb uniforms, glittering medals and silverware, weaponry and the memorabilia, and stories of soldiers through the ages.
There are special exhibitions about Military Music, the Territorial Army, and Military Fashion, and a fun trail for families to enjoy while exploring the galleries.
Full booking details can be found on the museum’s website.
