New food and drink market to enjoy on Plymouth’s waterfront
10th September 2020
A new Seafood and Harbour Market is coming to Plymouth’s Barbican and Sutton Harbour this September.
On 19 and 20 September, visitors will be able to enjoy a range of food and drink stalls and street food vendors, selling everything from fresh fish to delicious treats to enjoy at home.
Organised by Plymouth Waterfront Partnership with support from Sutton Harbour Group, the market will take place from 10am to 5pm, with traders spread across the Parade and Quay Square to enable social distancing.
CEO of Plymouth Waterfront Partnership, Diane Mansell, said: “At this time of year we would usually be getting ready for one of our biggest events, Plymouth Seafood Festival, but I’m thrilled that we’re able to provide a safe alternative in the form of the new market, which will host some of the region’s most-loved food and drink businesses.
“As well as this, we’ll be taking some of the most popular elements of the festival online to celebrate everything that makes us Britain’s Ocean City, from our fantastic fishing heritage and the Call 4 Fish initiative to the wonderful work being done by the National Marine Aquarium.”
An exciting line-up of activity will take place online from Friday 18 to Sunday 20 September, celebrating Plymouth’s marine heritage and promoting sustainability.
Seafood fans can watch along wherever they are by following the What’s On Plymouth Facebook page and there’s different content to look forward to each day.
Viewers can expect cooking demonstrations from local restaurants including Supha’s and The Box Kitchen and Bar, as well as a handy masterclass in filleting fish from the experts at Plymouth Trawler Agents based at Plymouth Fisheries, England’s second largest fresh fish market located on Sutton Harbour’s East Quay.
Philip Beinhaker, Executive Chairman of Sutton Harbour Group, said: “We are delighted to be working in partnership with Plymouth Waterfront Partnership and Plymouth City Council to host the Seafood and Harbour Market on Plymouth’s historic waterfront in Sutton Harbour. There is no better location to celebrate the fantastic fish and seafood landed at Plymouth Fisheries every day, and this event will enable people to buy fresh fish from local traders, as well as learning more online about how to cook and enjoy their seafood.”
