Busking for Ukraine fundraiser coming to Plymouth city centre
17th March 2022
Busking for Ukraine is a live music event with an ambition to bring Plymouth together in solidarity with the people of Ukraine, this Saturday 19 March from 10am to 5pm in the city centre.
A collective of local musicians are giving their time to raise funds for Ukrainians that have been forced to leave their homes and seek refuge.
Plymouth4Buskers UK has teamed up with Heyday Events to bring one of the most significant busking events of the year to the city. They will be assembling a stage on The Piazza (where the big screen used to be) for Plymouth's finest local musicians including the incredible blues and soul singer Joanna Cooke, Jamie Yost with his folk alt pop-soul, Elani Evangelou, a neo-soul singer-songwriter, and Tom Baker with his upbeat acoustic classics. Plus so many more incredible local artists.
Michelle Rysdale, from Heyday Events said ‘We are really excited for this event on Saturday, we are overwhelmed with the incredible local artistic talent that have offered their time. This event aims to raise money for an incredible organisation called Fight for Right, who are a female and disability led charity that are spearheading the complicated task of supporting, sheltering and evacuating disabled people from the war-torn areas of Ukraine.
Steve Hughes, chief executive of the Plymouth City Centre Company, said: “We are delighted to support this event in the city centre and hope we can pack out the Piazza and raise money to show our solidarity with the people of Ukraine at the same time.
“The organisers and musicians, who are giving their time for free, have done a brilliant job in pulling this event together in just a few days.”
Performers giving up their time for free include: Joanna Cooke, Russel Sinclair, Dave Budd, Tom Baker, Down on the Upside, Jake Bradshaw, Manuka, Jen Brunt, Kat Towers, Geoff Blake-Lobb, Phil De Glass, Jill Cole, Horse with No Name and Elani Evangelou.
Money raised will go to: Fight for Right – A female and disability led NGO based in Ukraine to help provide shelter, support and evacuation for disabled Ukrainians.
