The 2022 Competition Weekend of The Armada Trophy begins on 22nd July 2022 and Plymouth is proud to be hosting this event for the first time ever at the award-winning venue
‘The Box’
Days two and three of this colourful competition take place on 23rd and 24th July in Kingsbridge and Dartmouth respectively.
Some 22 Criers from all over the United Kingdom and from as far afield as St George and Hamilton Bermuda will congregate to deliver the historic and captivating spectacle of the art of Crying with the theme ‘The Box.’ With the support of Destination Plymouth, Plymouth City Centre Company, Plymouth Waterfront Partnership, The Plymouth Mayoral Officers, our Lord Mayor and The Box, local Crier John Pitt and his deputy David Green are honoured to host the day’s activities and will lead the procession of Criers, all of whom will be in their amazingly colourful, detailed and unique Regalia. Timing of events for public participation 11.00 am Plymouth Guildhall Plymouth Lord Mayor Sue Dann will begin The Parade of Criers from The Guildhall via The Piazza, The Sundial and New George Street to Tavistock Place. 12 noon to 13.30 hrs approximately ‘The Box’ The Criers will deliver their individual Cries from the outdoor pulpit of St Luke's church as spectators and judges watch from the terraces of The Box and in the square itself. 14.00 to 14.30 hrs approximately Tavistock Place outside St Luke's Results of the competition will be delivered and prizes awarded before the Criers depart for The Guildhall via New George Street, The Sundial, The Piazza and Guildhall Square.
