A new era for festive fun: Plymouth Christmas Market set to sparkle this November
17th June 2025
Plymouth is set to shine even brighter this festive season as an exciting new Christmas Market arrives in the heart of the city, promising seasonal cheer, community spirit, and economic opportunity.
The Plymouth City Centre Company is proud to announce that Market Place, stars of the Channel Four programme Secrets of the Christmas Market and the UK’s leading specialist market operators, will be delivering the all-new Plymouth Christmas Market—a major addition to the city’s winter calendar and a landmark moment for the region.
Set against the backdrop of Armada Way and New George Street, the market will run from Thursday 27 November to Sunday 21 December, transforming the city centre into a vibrant festive village. With more than 100 traditional, decorated chalets, the market will offer a rich blend of artisan crafts, unique gifts, and international street food.
From warming mugs of Glühwein to gourmet cheeses, Belgian chocolates, and French crêpes, visitors will be immersed in an authentic European-style festive experience. Local traders will stand shoulder to shoulder with international exhibitors, showcasing the best of Plymouth’s entrepreneurial spirit alongside global seasonal delights.
The market will also feature family favourites, such as a traditional carousel and a vintage Helter Skelter offering breathtaking views, as well as a thrilling slide back to street level for those who dare!
Bringing the city together
Andy Pidgen, Operations Director at Market Place Europe, said:
"We are thrilled to bring our signature festive market to Plymouth. Our goal is to create a joyful and immersive destination that not only delights visitors but also supports local business and drives city centre footfall. Plymouth’s vibrant atmosphere and coastal charm make it the perfect setting for a world-class Christmas market."
Christmas markets are proven engines of economic impact, drawing increased visitor numbers, boosting retail and hospitality trade, and strengthening civic pride. In 2024, similar events organised by Market Place Europe generated millions in direct spend for host cities across the UK.
The Plymouth Christmas Market will also provide opportunities for local entrepreneurs, emerging makers, and community groups. From trading opportunities to charity stalls and performance showcases, this is more than an event, it’s a citywide celebration.
Calling all local traders
Steve Hughes, chief executive of the Plymouth City Centre Company, said:“This is a significant opportunity for Plymouth. The Christmas Market is set to be a cornerstone of our winter events programme, drawing thousands of visitors and celebrating the creativity and talent of our local businesses.”
“Talented local traders with high-quality products are encouraged to apply now. Spaces are limited and in high demand, so early registration is essential. To sign up, visit the Market Place website to create a trader account and apply. All applicants will be reviewed for suitability and product quality, with spaces allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.
