Safety Information at British Firework Championships

If you’re planning on watching this year’s British Firework Championships from the water, make sure you’re also familiar with these top tips for keeping safe.

Safety Advice: 

Due to the hot weather forecast there are a number of safety measures in place for the event. 

• No sparklers/personal fireworks are to be brought to the event
• It's going to be warm, so bring your own water bottle and use the water point to keep hydrated. 
• Wear appropriate clothing for the weather. 
• BBQs are not permitted on Plymouth Hoe or Mount Batten during the event. Visitors are advised to use the on-site food and drink vendors for refreshements.

Partial Solar Eclipse

A partial solar eclipse will be visible a few hours before the British Firework Championships 2026 on Wednesday 12 August ONLY.

The 'first contact' of the eclipse will begin at approximately 6.18pm, with the maximum coverage taking place at approximately 7.15pm, the end of the eclipse is due at around 8.10pm. Between 90-96% of the Sun will be covered by the Moon. Find out more information on timings.

Remember, never look directly at the Sun, even with sunglasses. Use certified eclipse glasses that meet the international safety standard (ISO 12312-2:2015(E)) or an appropriate indirect viewing method instead.

Water safety exclusion zone

Please familiarise yourself with the water safety exclusion zone 2026. This area must be kept clear between 8.45pm and 10.40pm to provide access for emergency vessels. Read the active notice to mariners from the King's Harbour Master for further information.

General Water Safety Advice 

No fly zone 

A no fly zone is in place with The Civil Aviation Authority between 2pm and 11pm on each day beginning with 12 August 2026 and ending on 13 August 2026.

Between 14:00 and 23:00 on 12^th and 13^th August 2026 no unmanned aircraft is to fly below 1200 FT AMSL within the area bounded by:
