Lord Mayor’s Day returns to Plymouth city centre on Saturday 25 May, with a day packed full of free family entertainment. This year the day is themed around science and the future, with lots to learn and explore.

There’s something for everyone to enjoy and here are the top five things you won’t want to miss…

1. Futuristic visitors

The star of the show this year is Titan the Robot. This huge, 8 foot tall robot will be appearing in the Piazza at 1pm and 2.30pm, putting on an incredible show.

You should also keep an eye out for two visitors from outer space, who are making a special trip to Plymouth! They’ll be around at 11.30am, 1.30pm and 3pm, using humour, physical theatre and improvised games to help them make new friends.

2. Space Exploration

Step inside the Science Dome, which you’ll find on Place de Brest. Using a 360 degree projector and real data terrain from NASA of Mars and the Moon, it’ll take you on an exploratory journey through space.

There will be half hour shows running throughout the day from 10am to 4pm, celebrating 50 years of the Moon Landings and looking forward to the future of Mars exploration.

3. Talented performers

The stage on the Piazza will be running from 10am to 4pm, with performances from some of Plymouth’s brilliantly talented singers and dancers. Enjoy choirs and singers including the Military Kids Choir, and a range of dance styles, including Bollywood and street dancing.

4. Follow a trail through space

Follow the free Planet Trail, sponsored by Plymouth City Centre Company, for a chance to win some amazing prizes.

The trail takes you on a journey around the city centre and through space, stopping off at each of the planets to learn more about them. Using the Lord Mayor’s Day programme as a guide, find the answers to all the questions and submit your completed form to be entered into the prize draw – there’s a kids tablet and four mini motion control drones up for grabs!

5. Go behind the scenes at the Council House

Learn more about the fascinating history of Plymouth’s democracy with free guided tours of the Council House led by the Lord Mayor’s Macebearers. The tour will show off some of the exciting artefacts in the city’s possession and the interior of the incredible Council House building, as well as giving you a unique insight into the role of the Lord Mayor.

Tours are free, but must be booked in advance through Eventbrite.

And that’s not all! There will be more than 40 stalls, showcasing the city’s charities and community organisations and all the brilliant work they do, alongside food and craft stalls.

The Piazza and Guildhall Square will also be home to loads of fun activities, including circus skills workshops, The Creation Station, virtual reality experiences, a space colouring wall and appearances from magicians, Elmer the elephant and the Party Princesses!

Lord Mayor’s Day, sponsored by Rowes Honda and Rowes Suzuki, runs from 10am to 4pm on Saturday 25 May. Download the programme, or visit the Lord Mayor’s Day event page to find out more.

I like events that are connected to science and the future. Science does not stand still, and it is great when young people are drawn to it interactively. I would be interested in visiting Space Exploration and the Council House. However, I am a student and have many assignments to do. Good thing I have access to great resources for students, like https://writingbros.com/essay-examples/perseverance/ where I can find examples of content on a given topic. Recently, this resource helped me a lot with my essay on perseverance. Therefore, this is a great opportunity to get some free time and spend it with benefits, gaining new knowledge and impressions.
