There's a lot to love about summer in Britain's Ocean City - and you know it's arrived when...

Tinside opens for outdoor swimming

With panoramic views of Plymouth Sound, a sun deck for working on our tans and a whole lot of 1930s Art Deco charm, braving an outdoor dip at Tinside Lido is one of the sure signs that summer has come to Britain's Ocean City.

You spend most of your time at the Hoe...

Is it even summer in Plymouth if you don't arrange to meet your mates on the Hoe? We all congregate at Smeaton's Tower and there's usually an ice cream in tow, which is always worth the queue.

And most of your money on fish and chips

Okay, let's be honest, we enjoy this British classic all year round on The Barbican... but there's something extra-satisfying about scoffing them when the sun's shining! Harbourside, anybody?!

You plan a beach day and it actually goes ahead

The weather in dear old Blighty can be unpredictable at times, but here in Plymouth we're spoilt for choice when it comes to beaches - and we all know summer's here when we dig out the swimwear, sunnies and bucket and spade for that first beach day.

You can't wait for The British Firework Championships

Every year we "Ooh" and "Ahh" as professional display companies dazzle us with their skills - and it never get old! Summer really is bangin' in Plymouth.
