There's lots of fun to be had this weekend - festivals are abundant, it's the start of the half term school holidays and the weather is set to be a scorcher so grab a sunhat, suncream and the kids and make the most of what's on!


Flavour Fest

Foodie fans are in for a real treat this year as Flavour Fest returns to Plymouth city centre on Friday 27 to Sunday 29 May!

It's the South West’s largest free food and drink festival, with hundreds of local producers selling tasty treats and a chef stage with regional cookery stars showcasing their skills.

Here’s the top five things to experience this year:

Watch and learn at the Cookery Theatre

The popular cookery theatre returns with a packed schedule over three days, starting with Chris Tanner from Barbican Kitchen at 10am on Friday 27 May.

Browse the food stalls

This year, one large marquee will cover the Piazza with a huge variety of food and drink traders all under one roof, so whatever the weather you’re guaranteed a great day out!

Tuck in

Don’t miss the amazing variety of street food stalls along Armada Way and around Place de Brest.

Entertain the kids

Each day of the event there will be lots for children to enjoy including arts and crafts, face painting, glitter tattoos, magic shows and an interactive family fun area.

Cheer on your favourite in Ready Steady Cook

Head to the Cookery Theatre at 1.30pm on Friday 27 May for the annual Ready Steady Cook competition!

Green Man Festival

Back for another year, this fantastic family event has something for everyone. 

The event at Mount Edgcumbe celebrates the re-birth of the year by constructing a huge Green Man figure made from storm damaged trees.

This year’s Green Man event will be a fantastic mix of entertainment with something for all the family, on Saturday 28 and Sunday 29 May from 10am to 4pm.  Enjoy live music on the stage by the sea from Black Friday, Space Cowboys and the Countrymen

Visitors can also watch medieval knights, Age of Chivalry, on the Bowling Green re-enacting some of their most victorious battles.

There will be traditional family activities running with the opportunity to shoot a traditional English Longbow, fairground entertainment from yesteryear plus delicious food, a licensed bar tent and lots of gifts and crafts to treat yourself.

The event is free to enter (parking charges apply, £5 all day parking per vehicle).

Freedom Community Festival

The Freedom Community Festival in on Saturday 28 and Sunday 29 May at the Freedom Fields Park, bringing people together to celebrate the diverse community of the city. 

Enjoy culture, great music, delicious food, market stalls, activities, and community spirit all blended seamlessly together to show off Plymouth at it’s finest.

If you haven’t been before, go along and enjoy a fun weekend, meet up with friends or make new ones all in a warm, relaxed family-friendly environment.

Beer & Cider / Rum & Vodka Festival

On Saturday 28 May, you can experience both the Beer & Cider festival (12pm - 3pm) and the Rum & Vodka Festival (4pm - 11.55pm) at the Plymouth Guildhall.

These events are guaranteed to get you feeling good, with a range of fun and themed sessions each providing a wide range of specially selected drinks, which are sure to get your corks popping! Arrive in style to these sessions with a red carpet entrance and photoshoot opportunity!

New for 2022, there will be cocktail masterclasses that will bring your inner bartender out! (extra cost, and dependent on availability). Try your hand at perfecting the Pornstar Martini, mastering the Mojito or becoming a Cosmopolitan connoisseur, all under the guidance of an experienced mixologist that is ready to put you through your paces.

Jubilee Bunting and Flags at The Box

Nothing says 'celebration' like bunting and flags!

Head to The Box between 28 and 31 May to cut, colour, stitch and decorate triangles to add to their bunting ribbon, before going in to The Box to see it on display between 2 and 5 June. Or, make a flag to wave as the nation marks the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.
