Looking for a unique summer activity that the whole family will remember? Just under an hour from Plymouth, tucked away in the heart of the English Riviera, you’ll find something truly extraordinary: Cave Cinema at Kents Cavern - a pop-up underground cinema experience set inside one of Britain’s oldest caves.

It’s a summer event that’s as magical as it is unexpected, and a perfect day out for holidaymakers and Plymouth locals alike.

What is Cave Cinema?

Cave Cinema is exactly what it sounds like: a cinema inside a cave! But not just any cave. Kents Cavern in Torquay is a UNESCO-recognised prehistoric site, filled with dramatic rock formations and millions of years of history. This summer, its chambers are once again transforming into a spectacular pop-up cinema showing a carefully curated mix of blockbusters, cult classics, thrillers and family favourites.

Visitors take their seats deep underground and enjoy a film in a truly one-of-a-kind setting, surrounded by the echoes and ambience of the Stone Age. It’s cool (literally - so don’t forget a jumper!), atmospheric, and an unforgettable way to watch a film.

What’s Showing This Summer

Whether you're planning a summer staycation or just fancy something different for your next evening out, there’s something for everyone in this year’s line-up including:

Wicked and Sonic the Hedgehog 3 for new release fans

Moana, Trolls, and Super Mario Bros for little adventurers

Plus so much more!

With films scheduled throughout the school holidays, it's an easy one to plan around, and ideal for combining with a seaside trip or a visit to Torquay or Paignton.

Planning Your Visit from Plymouth

Getting to Kents Cavern from Plymouth is simple. It's about a 50-minute drive via the A38 and South Devon Expressway.

Why not make a day of it? Head to the beach in Torquay, stop for a bite to eat on the harbour, explore the beautiful South West Coast Path, or of course embark on a guided tour of the cave, before heading underground later on for your film.

Top tips:

  • Bring a blanket or warm layer - the caves stay around 15°C all year round
  • Seating is provided and is unallocated but our team are on hand to assist
  • Snacks and refreshments are available on-site, including stone-baked Pizzas in our café!

Tickets are limited and advance booking is highly recommended. Popular screenings often sell out!

What Else Is On? Tribal Summer at Kents Cavern

If you're visiting Cave Cinema, why not extend the experience with Tribal Summer - a daytime celebration of prehistoric life, also running at Kents Cavern throughout the summer holidays.

Perfect for families, Tribal Summer includes face painting, hands-on craft activities and Stone Age-themed trails through our Woodlands - all included with your admission. It’s a brilliant way to entertain younger visitors and bring the cave’s ancient story to life.

You can visit for the daytime activities, stay for an early evening film, or mix and match depending on your plans. It’s history, adventure and entertainment all in one place.
