There’s plenty for the whole family to enjoy in and around Plymouth during February half term! We’ve pulled together some of the best things to do for inspiration, from hands-on workshops and family trails to theatre trips…

Polar Bear Explorer

Get outdoors and explore Plymouth’s beautiful waterfront by becoming a Polar Bear Explorer! There are 20 polar bear cubs hidden in shops and cafes from Sutton Harbour to Royal William Yard, find all 20 for the chance to win some great prizes. It's a great way to explore the city and you'll learn lots about how we can protect our amazing oceans along the way too. 

National Marine Aquarium

‘Sea the Difference – Explore the Shore’ at the aquarium this month. Meet local ocean heroes all working to champion the beautiful coastal waters surrounding Britain’s Ocean City. Each day there will be the chance to join scientists, conservationists and animal experts for family activities, games and adventures. Normal admission fees apply.

Make your own jewellery

Head to Ocean Studios on Sunday 17 and Wednesday 20 February for the chance to play with beads and create your very own beaded necklace and bracelet to take home. £10 per person, booking essential.

Meet Sid from Ice Age

Meet Sid the sloth from family-favourite film, Ice Age! He'll be visiting Drake Circus on Tuesday 19 Feb from 11am to 3.30pm. 

Horrible Histories

The amazing Horrible Histories live stage shows are coming to the Theatre Royal Plymouth for half term. Using actors and ground-breaking 3D special effects, they’re guaranteed to thrill both children and adults alike! Discover the foul facts of death and decay with the meanest mummies with the Awful Egyptians, or find out the fact of Henry’s headless wives and survive the Spanish Armada with the Terrible Tudors! Suitable for age 5+.

Buckland Abbey

Beautiful Buckland is offering a packed week of activities during half term, with chance to make a pine cone bird feeder, create miniature worlds using natural materials, take part in a fused glass workshop or tick off one of the 50 things to do before you’re 11 ¾! Some additional charges may apply, so check their website for the full details.

Dartmoor Zoo

Come face-to-face with tigers, lions and wolves at Dartmoor Zoo! There’s lots of extra activities to take part in during half term too, including daily scavenger hunts with edible prizes and the chance to make a Valentine’s Day card for your favourite animal. On Friday 22 February, they’ll be screening the Disney Pixar classic WALL-E in the restaurant too – it’s included in the standard admission price.

Pennywell Farm

Get out into the fresh air with a day trip to Pennywell Farm! Meet the early spring babies – look out for lambs, goat kids and piglets – and enjoy the children’s entertainers. You can also enjoy 9 days of fun for the price of 1, as when you visit you’ll be able to return for free as many times as you like during February half term.

Cornwall’s Regimental Museum

Head across the river Tamar for a trip to Cornwall’s Regimental Museum, which offers free entry for everyone during February half term, along with a whole host of activities! Learn about guns and uniforms through the ages and handle some of their captivating historic objects. The craft room will also be open for military makes.
