The British Firework Championships on Plymouth Hoe is lighting up the skies once again on 13 and 14 August, and behind the scenes, Associated British Ports (ABP) is helping to make the magic happen. As headline sponsors for the second year running, ABP is proud to support one of the city’s most exciting and iconic events.
Part of Plymouth’s waterfront story
ABP operates Millbay Docks, right in the heart of the city’s waterfront, which is home to the Millbay Ferry Terminal – the gateway for thousands of travellers heading to and from Europe with Brittany Ferries each year. The port plays a vital role in the local economy and helps keep Plymouth connected to the world.
“ABP is delighted to be the official partner of the British Firework Championships for the second consecutive year. As a proud member of the Plymouth community, we are committed to showcasing what the city has to offer, whether that’s through delivering the most significant investment in Millbay Docks in recent decades or supporting exciting events like the Firework Championships.”
Investing in Plymouth’s future
Millbay Docks has recently seen a major transformation, thanks to a £23 million investment from ABP, Brittany Ferries and the Plymouth and South Devon Freeport. This investment is all about making the ferry terminal and port area even better – for passengers, freight, and future growth.
The upgrades include:
-
A brand-new passenger boarding bridge, making it easier and more accessible to board the ferry.
-
A stronger West Wharf, ready to welcome larger ships and more freight.
-
A modern terminal building with improved facilities for travellers.
-
Enhanced infrastructure to support cruise ships, helping Plymouth grow as a destination for international visitors.
These changes are part of a long-term plan to secure the port’s future, support local jobs, and help Plymouth grow as a greener, more connected city.
A proud supporter of Plymouth
ABP is more than just a port operator – it's a passionate supporter of the Plymouth community. From sponsoring spectacular events like the British Firework Championships to working towards greener operations and supporting local charities, ABP plays an important role in the life of the city.
