When the days get shorter and the chill sets in, there is nothing quite like a comforting meal to warm you up from the inside out. Plymouth is full of places serving up proper comfort food from slow-cooked meats to rich seasonal dishes and traditional British favourites. To make it easier for you, we have put together some of our favourite tried and tested places which are perfect for a warming meal on an autumn day... 

                           

Salumi  

Just a short walk from the city centre, Salumi is a hidden gem that offers a relaxed atmosphere and a menu packed with flavour. The kitchen focuses on local, seasonal ingredients, with dishes such as cottage pie, belly pork, and a delicious traditional Sunday lunch. It’s set over multiple levels, and incredibly cosy with strings of fairy lights. Whatever you do, do not miss out on some of the incedible desserts that they offer, the sticky toffee pudding is the perfect end to a delicious meal here! 

Acleaf 

Located within the elegant Boringdon Hall Hotel, Àclèaf is perfect for those looking to indulge in something a little more refined. Awarded a prestigious Michelin star, the restaurant, headed by acclaimed chef Scott Paton, offers a four-course tasting menu that changes with the seasons, highlighting the very best of British produce. While it is fine dining, the experience remains warm and welcoming. Their autumn menu is inspired by the season's finest produce and this autumn, includes dishes like venison, turbot, and more.  

Jolly Jacks  

Overlooking the Mayflower Marina sits Jolly Jacks. The waterside bar and bistro has abundant access to fresh, sustainable seafood making it the perfect place for a delicious, warming meal. Enjoy comfort food like fish and chips, steak, and market fish. Why not go to Royal William Yard before walking the short distance to Jolly Jacks for a roast? It will be well worth the trip! 

NORA’s 

NORA’S is a neighbourhood restaurant serving a range of modern British comfort dishes, seafood and quality meats cooked over charcoal. They use the best produce from land and sea to create memorable meals and dining experiences.  Their meals include different cuts of steak, roasts, pork and even wild garlic & pea orzo. Relatively new on the Plymouth food scene, it is not one to miss!  

 The Fishermans Arms  

Just a short walk from the Barbican, The Fisherman’s Arms is classic British pub comfort at its best. With exposed beams, a warming fire, and a menu of familiar favourites (think pies, sausage and mash, gammon) it’s exactly the sort of place you duck into for warmth, good food and good company. Dogs are not only welcomed, but they even have their own menu so it is truly the ideal place for the whole family.
