During the holiday season, Plymouth is full of festive lights that brighten up the city. From streets to local attractions, there are plenty of displays to enjoy while soaking up the Christmas atmosphere. Here’s a guide to where you can see the best Christmas lights in Plymouth.
City Centre
Head to Plymouth City Centre this Christmas to see the stunning lights displays around the streets. The beautiful decorations are set to be turned on at the Plymouth City Centre Christmas Lights Switch On on Thursday 13 November when the Lord Mayor, special guests from Scrooge! The Musical plus Santa himself kick off Christmas in style.
With plenty of entertainment planned in the build-up this is a Christmas lights event you won’t want to miss.
There are even more Christmas lights to see when Plymouth Christmas Market opens on Thursday 27 November!
Head to the market on the Piazza and discover 60 beautifully decorated wooden chalets, lively German Bar, traditional carousel, giant snowglobe, big wheel and so much more.
Drake Circus
Plymouth’s largest shopping Centre, Drake Circus, is set to look extra Christmassy with twinkly lights this year.
With lights dangling from the ceiling, and festive glow everywhere you look, it’s impossible to not be in the Christmas spirit on a visit here. Don’t miss the big unveiling of the Drake Circus Christmas Lights on Thursday 13 November.
The festivities look extra special every Thursday as shops stay open until 9pm for late-night shopping, allowing the perfect opportunity to pick up the perfect Christmas present
The Barbican
Head to the historic streets of the Barbican and marvel at the magical Christmas Lights that adorn the streets.
The Barbican Christmas Lights will be switched on by Santa, a special guest and this year’s community hero on Saturday 15 November; following a day of fun, watch on as the streets twinkle beneath the stars!
Royal William Yard
Head to the stunning Royal William Yard this Christmas and check out the gorgeous twinkly displays that will illuminate throughout the iconic venue. Don’t miss the enormous tree in the Melville Building court, home to the Yard’s Christmas markets which take place twice a week in the buildup to Christmas.
Zooluminate at Dartmoor Zoo
The ever-popular Zooluminate is back at Dartmoor Zoo this Christmas. Head to the iconic zoo and marvel at the Christmas lights decorations that fill the zoo with festive glow. This year’s display includes all-new features so a visit to see the animals reveling in the Christmas glow is a must this holiday season!
Saltram House
As ever, Saltram House will be a festive paradise this Christmas as it beams with magical lights during the festive season. Discover Christmas at Saltram at marvel at the twinkly lights dotted around the house, here you can even have the opportunity to meet Santa Claus as well as to explore the Christmas displays dotted around the immaculate grounds of the National Trust venue.
