Get ready to celebrate the start of Christmas in Plymouth with the City Centre Christmas Lights Switch On on the Piazza at Thursday 13 November.
Prepare for a programme of family-friendly entertainment throughout the afternoon and into the evening on the main stage, sponsored by Morgan Sindall Construction.

Check out the massive Christmas Tree
Look out for the new 25ft real Christmas tree, at Old Town Square, which will be sparkling with colourful lights. This impressive Christmas tree is provided by Plymouth City Centre Company, sponsored by Costa Coffee, Plymouth Citybus and Plymouth City Council, and is a great spot for a festive selfie!
Another great selfie spot is the new beautiful Christmas lights installation at Michael Spiers, on Cornwall Street.
Attend the Drake Circus Christmas Light Switch-on
Drake Circus and The Barcode will join the celebrations with festive fun starting from 3.30pm. Enjoy Elf-a-Oke singalong fun, magical snow flurries and the big Drake Circus Christmas Light Switch-On at 5pm, followed by further festive entertainment.
Enjoy the Entertainment on the Square
Head to Old Town Square and enjoy the traditional Christmas carols performed by St Andrew’s Church Choir from 6pm to 6.45pm.
Marvel at the main stage festive performances
Head to the stage on the Piazza, Armada Way, for festive performances. Opening the show at 4pm, will be a lively performance by Prince Rock Primary School, followed by Yealmpstone Farm Primary School at 4.20pm.
Groovement Project Dance Company
The Groovement Project Dance Company is recognised as one of the most successful dance companies in the U.K. Watch their epic street dance performance from 4.45pm to 5pm from the stage on the Piazza.
Singing and Dance Performances
The celebrations continue on the Piazza with more fantastic singing and dance performances taking place on the stage, ahead of the big switch-on moment, including:
5.10pm to 5.25pm - Pauline Quirke Academy
5.35pm to 5.50pm - Italia Conti
6pm to 6.20pm - Rock Choir
Get ready for the big switch-on moment!
The countdown will begin from 6.25pm and doing the honours will be the cast of Scrooge! The Musical, from the Plymouth Theatre Company, Lord Mayor of Plymouth, Councillor Kathy Watkin, Santa, and Mrs Doubtfire, who will also be joining, to say “Helloooo, poppets!” from the Theatre Royal Plymouth! Watch the magical moment as the city centre bursts into light, with sparkling colours and swirling snowflakes.
Enjoy live music from The Sound
The evening will finish with a lively performance from The Sound, one of the South West’s most popular and exciting rock bands. Expect energetic covers to get the whole crowd singing and dancing.
Late night shopping begins
Late-night shopping starts on Thursday 13 November, with many of the shops open until 9pm, which will continue every Thursday through to 18 December. Don’t forget the Plymouth Christmas Market, on the Piazza will open on Thursday 27 November until Sunday 21 December.
