Plymouth Pirates Weekend is back on 9-10 May 2026 promising two days packed with activities, family adventure, and swashbuckling entertainment across the Barbican, Sutton Harbour, Royal William Yard, and the Waterfront. 

Ahead of this year’s event check out some of the top things you can expect to ennjoy across the two days.

Watch Live Entertainment and Shanty Performances

From rousing sea shanty performances to pirate‑themed family activities, live music, and street entertainers, Plymouth Pirates Weekend is brimming with entertainment along the historic waterfront, with an extensive programme of sea shanty sing‑along sessions featuring local bands belting out traditional maritime songs and modern shanty favourites that showcase Plymouth’s rich nautical heritage and create an authentic harbour‑side atmosphere.  

These high‑energy performances take place throughout the Barbican, Sutton Harbour, and Royal William Yard, where pirate puppet shows, roaming costumed pirates, and talented street performers bring the high seas to life with characterful storytelling, interactive fun, and non‑stop live music.

Watch the Pirates Raft Race 

Head to Commercial Wharf on Sunday 10 May for a new addition to Pirates Weekend, the Raft Race! Watch on as teams battle it out in the waters next to the Barbican in an attempt to be crowned champion. It’s set to be an unmissable spectacle for the final moments of Plymouth Pirates Weekend 2026. 

Check out the fun at Royal William Yard

Royal William Yard transforms into a pirate haven with treasure hunts, circus skills workshops, face painting, crafts, and live music. Try your hand at making ship biscuits, watch pirate films at the Everyman Cinema, and enjoy delicious food and drink from the Yard’s restaurants and pop-up stalls. It’s a perfect spot for families to relax and explore during the weekend.

Step aboard the Nao Santa Maria

Head to the Barbican Landing Stage where you can step aboard the Nao Santa Maria Tall Ship. The ship is open from 10am to 8.30pm daily and has four decks to explore. The ship will be open from Wednesday 6 May all the way through Pirates Weekend on Sunday 10 May. 

Take part in the Pirate Parade

Dress to impress in your finest pirate attire and join the excitement at the much-anticipated Pirate Parade. Led by the lively beats of the Plymouth Maritime Corps of Drums, this vibrant procession will march along Southside Street, bringing waves of energy at 1pm on Saturday 9 May.

Discover fantastic local traders

Wander the event’s bustling stalls and meet exhibitors offering everything from handcrafted pirate hats and jewellery to maritime art, eco-friendly gifts, and local produce at The Barbican

Take part in the Buccanneer Bingo 

Take on this year’s Pirate Trail – Buccaneer Bingo, for a swashbuckling, free family adventure packed with pirate‑themed fun. Collect your trail card, follow the map, and hunt down clues hidden around the waterfront to complete your bingo board and earn a treasure‑worthy prize from the friendly Tourist Information crew.  

Look Out for Captain Jack

The ever-popular Captain Jack will be making appearances throughout the weekend. Spot him parading the Barbican, posing for photos, and entertaining visitors with his roguish charm. He’s a highlight for kids and adults alike—don’t miss your chance to meet this lovable rogue.
