Get hooked at Royal William Yard's exciting new bar, kitchen and takeout
24th January 2020
Plymouth’s newest bar and seafood eatery, The Hook & Line, opens its doors in the historic Slaughterhouse building, Royal William Yard, this March.
The brainchild of business owner, Ben Squire and hospitality expert Steve Page, within The Hook & Line you will discover a quirky, rustic interior with bench seating and, true to the City’s naval roots, Plymouth’s first speciality Rum Bar. Steve’s area of expertise, the bar promises to be the heart of the venue. There’ll be a specially selected wine list, Perrier Jouët champagne, cocktails will be on point and you can enjoy The Hook & Line’s very own, signature ale, the Hook, Line & Sinker.
From breakfast to evening, the menu will be simple and delicious, with specials chalked onto the wall. Expect fresh pastries and great coffee for breakfast, served from 8 to 11am. From day to night, The Hook & Line will serve a mix of the freshest seafood delights, caught by Ben’s own local fishing boats, from mackerel paté on toasted artisan bread and fish or veggie tacos, to pan fried scallops, lobster and fries and traditional fish and chips, available as single plates, sharing boards or to take out.
Emily Handslip, Director of Commercial Lettings for Urban Splash, said, “As a former Naval victualling yard, nothing could be more fitting for Royal William Yard than seafood and rum! We can’t wait for The Hook & Line to open; it’s going to be a truly unique venue, a great addition to our thriving food and drink scene, and we’re certain it’ll be a big hit. We are delighted to welcome another local independent business to the Yard, especially with such a passionate and successful team behind our ferry service and Royal William Yard Marina. There is always so much going on at Royal William Yard, with plenty to explore and enjoy, and soon you’ll be able to treat yourself to a feast of fresh seafood, speciality rum and signature ale – cheers!”
Look out for events at The Hook & Line, from regular live acoustic sets and quiz nights, to Cook Your Catch experiences and flower arranging sessions, the venue promises to offer something for everyone and a great addition to the Royal William Yard community.
Manager and part owner, Steve, said: “We’re creating a cool, rustic, pop up vibe, a place for people to come together for great tasting food and drinks in a laid-back atmosphere. From morning breakfast meetings and laid-back lunch times, to late night gatherings, we’re looking forward to bringing The Hook & Line to Royal William Yard.”
