With one of the world's most impressive sailing events, SailGP arriving to Plymouth Sound this weekend, here's 5 things to do to make the most out of the event.

Wander the waterfront

Nothing beats the views across Plymouth Sound, and this weekend there'll be a view to remember as the SailGP eight competing nations race across the water on F50 catamarans, which have a predicted top speed of over 60mph!

Walk across the waterfront and see these spectaular watercrafts in action.

Eat & drink

Plymouth's waterfront is brimming with places to eat and drink. It's going to be a scorcher of a weekend so make sure you stay hydrated and well fed. Here's a few places offering walk ins over the weekend (and have the best views across Plymouth Sound)

Grab some SailGP merch

You can find the SailGP fan shop on the Piazza in the city centre...stop by ahead of the afternoons' events, do a spot of shopping and grab some offical SailGP merchandise.

Paddleboarding - around the racing

Feeling like getting out there on the water yourself? Try a spot of paddleboarding before the race begins or if you time it right you may just see the race from your board out on the water.

South West SUP based at the Royal William Yard is a truly unique waterfront location.

Get technical

The SailGP race village is located in Millbay, by the award-winning Quadrant Wharf development, with Soap Street providing the perfect viewing point to see the action from the race village and technical area.

Plymouth is easily accessible by train with a wide range of services running from a variety of locations within England. Although some services may require a change or two.

Travelling from London takes around 3 hours with Great Western Railway, if you're coming from the north, the trip from Manchester can take 5 hours 15 minutes.

Alternatively, the recently renovated Night Riviera Sleeper service runs Monday – Friday and Sunday evenings. Visit gwr.com/sleeper for more details on times and how to book.

We recommend using GWR.com to search for the fastest and best route for your journey, and book in advance for the best price.
