The National Marine Park Big Blue Splash is coming to the waterfront on 23 and 24 July 10am to 4pm, giving everyone in Plymouth the chance to enjoy and explore our amazing National Marine Park, thanks to funding from The National Lottery Heritage Fund.

There are lots of free activities on offer over the weekend, including a variety of water sports, and although many of the bookable activities have sold out very quickly there’s still plenty for you to enjoy.


Try stand-up paddleboarding

Want to have a quick try at this popular sport? Mount Batten Watersports and Activities centre will be hosting short Stand-Up Paddleboarding sessions as the instructors will guide you through the waters around Mount Batten and cover the basics. 

No need to book, just head to the Mount Batten centre and speak to the team there and you will receive further instructions. Sessions this weekend are between 10am and 4pm.

The easiest way to get to Mount Batten from Plymouth Hoe is boarding the Mount Batten Ferry, which you can take from the Barbican landing stage for a small fee.

Cool down at the Mount Edgcumbe Country Park Ice-cream and Bubbles Festival

Enjoy the ultimate festival for ice-cream lovers in the South West on national ice-cream day at Mount Edgcumbe Country Park, 10.30am to 4pm this weekend.

The event will include a huge selection of ice-creams from an array of ice-cream sellers with every flavour you could wish for (including vegan, doggy and gluten free) Plus Ice Cream desserts, waffles and crepes!  There will also be whole range of entertainment including live music, circus workshops and ice cream trails.

Have a go at riding an E-Bike

Ever wondered what it feels like to ride an electric bike? Come and have a try on a specialised bike lane on Hoe Road this weekend between 10am and 4pm. Much less effort than riding a real one, these amazing bikes are sure to shape the future of cycling, and are a green way to travel around.

Go directly outside the lift down to the lido and next to the ‘welcome’ tent.

Join in a 'Beach Explorers' session

Come down to the Hoe Foreshore and discover more about our incredible marine park! Take part in some beach games, discover the wonders of the ocean with hands on activities, hold our amazing ocean artefacts such as whale teeth and dolphin skulls all found on our local shores.

The marine biologists at the Ocean Conservation Trust will be running two of their popular ‘beach explorers sessions’ over this weekend between 10am and 1.30pm. 

Please speak to the team either at the welcome tent on Hoe Road or the Registration tent outside the entrance to the Lido and they will be able to direct you. Each session is up to 2.5 hours for up to 60 people.

There will also be face painters, entertainment from the Barbican Theatre, music and food stalls on shore to enjoy.

Plymouth is easily accessible by train with a wide range of services running from a variety of locations within England. Although some services may require a change or two.

Travelling from London takes around 3 hours with Great Western Railway, if you're coming from the north, the trip from Manchester can take 5 hours 15 minutes.
