Happy December! If you haven't already, it's time to get into the holiday spirit. There are many Christmas activities to enjoy in the run-up to the big day, so here are a few ideas...

Enjoy a day out in the city centre

Head to the piazza and browse the Plymouth Christmas Market, full of exciting gifts and delicious food to taste, as well as musical and theatrical performances to enjoy!

Plymouth Market is also hosting a number of fun, festive activities over the weekend and throughout the month.

Drake Circus also has a range of festive characters popping up and activities over weekends running up to Christmas. The centre's Old Town Street entrance will also be transformed into a Winter Wonderland at 4pm daily!

Get creative at The Box

This Saturday at The Box, learn more about the ceramics cats art work by Andy Holden on display in British Art Show 9. Make your own festive cat, or another figurine inspired by something that's special to you, and share some creative time together with the family.

Get festive at the Christmastime Ball

Experience the magical, extravagant, and luxurious Georgian-style Christmas ball at Saltram. There's brand new rooms decorated for 2022, opening up festive moments behind every door. The house will once again be adorned with extravagant decorations, thousands of twinkling lights, and beautiful baubles to create a magical Christmas experience at Saltram.

All visits to the house will need to be booked in advance to guarantee entry.

Plymouth is easily accessible by train with a wide range of services running from a variety of locations within England. Although some services may require a change or two.

Travelling from London takes around 3 hours with Great Western Railway, if you're coming from the north, the trip from Manchester can take 5 hours 15 minutes.

Alternatively, the recently renovated Night Riviera Sleeper service runs Monday – Friday and Sunday evenings. Visit gwr.com/sleeper for more details on times and how to book.

We recommend using GWR.com to search for the fastest and best route for your journey, and book in advance for the best price.
