The Salt Path
The Salt Path film, based on the bestselling memoir by Raynor Winn, will shine the spotlight well and truly on the South West Coast Path and the stunning locations along the world famous South West Coast Path National Trail, all within easy reach of Plymouth, including the iconic Rame Head.
Starring Gillian Anderson and Jason Isaacs, the Salt Path is based on Raynor Winn's bestselling memoir about a couple who, after losing their home and facing a terminal illness diagnosis, embark on a 630-mile trek along South West Coast Path.
The film chronicles their journey of survival, resilience, and rediscovery as they confront physical and emotional hardships while finding hope and healing in nature.
Plymouth acts as the start point for the South Devon section of the 630 mile South West Coast Path and the city, which is sandwiched between Dartmoor National Park and Plymouth Sound National Marine Park, provides the ideal walking base for discovering both the South Cornwall and South Devon sections of the UK’s longest National Trail.
Filmed near Plymouth
One of the closing scenes of the Salt Path takes place just minutes away from Plymouth at Rame Head in South East Cornwall. The location is a prominent headland that carves into the English Channel, marking the start of the Rame Peninsula sometimes referred to as Cornwall’s "forgotten corner".
At the very tip of the headland sits a small 14th-century chapel dedicated to St Michael which can be seen prominently in the film.
Rame Head is a short drive from Plymouth, or visitors can hop on Plymouth Citybus' number 70 service which connects the city to a number of locations along the South West Coast Path.
Keen walkers can visit Rame Head by foot. Take the trip across the water via the ferry from the Royal William Yard to Mount Edgcumbe. From there hikers are greeted with a glorious route which runs beside the country park, through the quaint villages of Kingsand and Cawsand before arriving at the iconic destination.
