About us
Local Plymothian promoters A Press of Suspects are bringing a new monthly Comedy event to the beautiful and historic Royal William Yard. In conjunction with Real Ideas organisation the night will take place in the lovely Ocean Studios Café on 27th April. Profit from the opening night will go directly to support those affected by the conflict in Ukraine. Local restaurants at The Yard are also offering up some discounts for ticket holders so you can grab a bite to eat before the show! Wagamama are offering 10% and WildWood are offering a staggering 30% off your final bill! The line-up for the night is as follows:Alex Kitson: "Alex Kitson is an "on the money funny" award-winning stand-up comedian, performer and writer. New on the comedy scene in 2018 he has performed across the UK, written for both the BBC ('Incredible... So clever' - BBC Radio Bristol) and online content with millions of views. He has been on bills alongside Russell Howard, Jon Richardson, Nish Kumar, Seann Walsh, Rosie Jones, Mark Watson, Fin Taylor and Jayde Adams among many others and reached the final of First Laugh 2020, New UK Online Comedian of the Year 2020, and the top 12 of Jason Manford's New Act Competition in 2019. He also performed in two five star runs at the Edinburgh Fringe with the Bristol Revunions ('The entire ensemble is hilarious. Properly, effortlessly, hilarious' - EdFringe Review). In 2021 after the pandemic he took his first hour of stand-up around the country to critical acclaim in Southampton, Brighton, Exeter, Bath and Bristol. Culminating in a sell-out show in Bristol and winning the Bath Comedy Festival Award for Best Joke 2021.
Millie Haswell: The 'people's princess of Bristol comedy', Millie Haswell is a rising star on the scene. Bringing a unique voice that is as morally dubious as it is flirty and charming, watching her is like being chatted up and held at knifepoint all at once. 2021 Bristol Smoke and Mirrors Gong Show winner, 2021 BBC New Comedian of the Year awards nominee.
Edward Tripp: A stand-up poet, writer and visual artist, living in Devon. Edward has previously brought his unique brand of spoken-word to nights and festivals such as Spork! Poetic Licence and WOMAD. "Strange, surreal and side-splittingly funny" - Razz Magazine. "Dave Allen meets David Lynch" - The Spoils Collective "…he's been known to cover himself in yeast and wield papier mache effigies of his mum's head, whilst delivering profound and universal truths…" - Spork!
Sandi Smith: Sandi began performing in 2013 telling her stories with acerbic wit whilst managing to maintain a warm connection with her audiences. In her first six months of performing, she reached the semi final of Funny Women and the heats of the BBC New Comedy Awards.Deceptively spacious, she must be seen to be appreciated. Sandi is a breath of fresh air to stand up comedy, she's very very funny and so good for someone so new to the circuit, see her now before you have to wait for returns to her future sell out shows! Patrick Monahan - "Very good indeed" . "Great material and audiences love her" . Nick Page
