How to get to Pirates
Find out the information you need on travelling to Pirates Weekend in Plymouth.
Whether you are travelling to enjoy the fun at The Barbican or The Royal William Yard there are a variety of travel methods to take up.
Visitors are encouraged to travel to the event using public transport where possible.

Free Shuttle Bus Service
Travel between The Barbican and The Royal William Yard for free at Pirates Wekeend with the Aargh and Ride Shuttle Bus Service.
Take the number 25P Service from the Barbican to Brewery Tap, then take the connection 34A service which runs every half an hour to take you to the Royal William Yard. The service is operated by Plymouth CityBus.

Free Ferry Service
Plymouth Boat Trips will be operating a free hourly ferry service between The Barbican Landing Stage and The Royal William Yard for Pirates Weekend. The service, which ahs been supported by the Plymouth Waterfront Partnership will run throughout both days with the last ferry departing the Barbican Landing Stage at 6.15pm.

By Foot
The Barbican
From the traffic lights at the centre of Royal Parade, head south towards the sea, passing the Plymouth Guildhall on your left. Cross the road at Princess Street and head towards Notte Street. Cross at the traffic lights and turn left and head towards the entrance of Southside Street. The distance from the centre of Royal Parade to the entrance to Southside Street and it’s approximately 500m.
Royal William Yard
Just a 30-minute walk from Plymouth City Centre, Royal William Yard is an easy and scenic stroll. Enter through the grand pedestrian arches at the main gate, or take the striking 63-step staircase linking the Yard with Devil’s Point for a more memorable arrival.
By Bus
The Barbican
You can reach Plymouth’s Barbican very easily by bus from the city centre or the station, and it’s only a short ride. From Plymouth City Centre (Royal Parade), take Plymouth Citybus route 25 towards West Hoe/Barbican and get off at Distillery, Mayflower Steps, or Lambhay Hill stops, all in the Barbican area.
Royal William Yard
The 34A, that will serve all stops along Union Street between the Octagon and Stonehouse Roundabout – the stops that are currently used by the service 34. The 34A will then continue to Royal William Yard via the signposted diversions. The 24-seater, fully accessible shuttle bus will run every 30 minutes from 7am-7pm, seven days a week. Additionally, the 21/21A Citybus service stops at Stonehouse Bridge, a 10-minute walk from Royal William Yard
By Train
Travel with GWR to Plymouth train station which is 1.7km from the Barbican and Sutton Harbour.
By Taxi
The Barbican
Take a taxi to the Barbican and Sutton Harbour. The nearest taxi rank is by the Basket Ope flats during Pirates Weekend.
Royal William Yard
You can take a taxi directly into the Royal William Yard. The Yard is approximately a 10 minute drive from Plymouth City Centre.
By Bike
The Barbican
Take a ride along Plymouth’s stunning Waterfront on the National Cycle Network routes 2 and 27 to reach the Barbican and Sutton Harbour.

Royal William Yard
The Royal William Yard is bike friendly venue. There are a number of cycle ranks throughout the yard, and multiple cycles routes to the yard. You can also rent a Beryl Bike and cycle to the Yard.
By Car
The Barbican
Join the A38 Devon Expressway to Plymouth and follow signs for Sutton Harbour and the Barbican.
There are more than 20 car parks in and around Plymouth city centre, the Barbican and Sutton Harbour, providing thousands of parking spaces for visitors.
There is also 2 hours free parking at Queen Anne’s Battery.

Royal William Yard
There are car parks on site and nearby the Yard. Please note that when there are events, the site can be particularly busy. Plan your travel in advance - there are plenty of ways to get here.Vehicle access to Royal William Yard remains available via the temporary diversion route through Stonehouse, but drivers should allow extra time for their journey.
Road Closures
The Barbican
Southside Street and Commerical Road will be closed from the junction of Notte Street to the junction of Lambhay Hill from 9am until 4.30pm on both Saturday and Sunday. Basket Ope and The Parade from the junction of Notte Street will be closed from 7am on Saturday until 5.30pm on Sunday.

Emma Place Ope, a section of Emma Place, a section of Barrack Place and section of Durnford Street. Vehicle access to Royal William Yard remains available via the temporary diversion route through Stonehouse, but drivers should allow extra time for their journey
