About the Coronation
Buckingham Palace has announced that the Coronation of His Majesty The King will take place on Saturday 6 May, 2023.
The Coronation Ceremony will take place at Westminster Abbey, London, and will be conducted by the Archbishop of Canterbury. King Charles and the Queen Consort Camilla will be crowned at Westminster Abbey on 6 May.
According to the palace it will be "a solemn religious service, as well as an occasion for celebration and pageantry".
Charles and Camilla will arrive at the Abbey in procession from Buckingham Palace, and after the service they will return to the palace in a larger ceremonial procession with other member of the Royal Family, in what's known as the Coronation Procession.
They will them make an appearance at the balcony alongside some family members.

Saturday 6 to Monday 8 May: The Coronation Big Lunch

The Coronation Service will take place on the morning of Saturday 6 May at Westminster Abbey. The Coronation is a solemn religious service, as well as an occasion for celebration and pageantry.
Sunday 7 May: Concert and lightshow at Windsor Castle
On Sunday 7 May a spectacular Coronation Concert at Windsor Castle will showcase the country’s diverse cultural heritage in music, theatre and dance. One of the highlights of the concert will be “Lighting up the Nation”, in which iconic locations across the UK will be lit up with projections, lasers, drone displays and illuminations.
Monday 8 May: Extra bank holiday; Big Help Out encouraging people to get involved in local volunteering.
From rolling up your sleeves to help a local group, to supporting some of the UK’s best-known national charities, the Big Help Out on Monday 8 May will give everyone an opportunity to join in.
Hundreds of activities are planned for the day by local community groups, organisations and charities including The Scouts, Royal Voluntary Service, National Trust and RNLI.
