We’re looking forward to a bumper Bank Holiday weekend celebrating the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, a truly unique event as Her Majesty becomes the first British monarch to have ever reigned for 70 years!

There’s lots going on across Plymouth to enjoy with friends and family, from live music and markets to street parties galore – we’ll toast to that!

Here’s this week’s extra special (and slightly early) Jubilee edition of our 'Friday Five'…

Sunday fun day at The Box

The first 100 children to arrive at The Box on Sunday 5 June are in for a treat, as they’ll receive a free celebratory ice cream! There’s also live music from Kate Ferguson and Joanna Cooke on Tavistock Place between 11.30am and 2pm. Inside, you can watch archive footage of the Queen’s previous visits to Plymouth and the South West on the giant screens in the Media Lab gallery, and check out a new display of Royal archive material too in the Active Archives gallery too.

Did you know we’ve also shared some amazing archive photos and video of Her Majesty, courtesy of The Box’s archives?

Party on Plymouth Hoe

Get ready for three epic days of live music as 1 Big Summer arrives on Plymouth Hoe. Huge names including Basement Jaxx, Years & Years, Supergrass and The Libertines will take to the stage – there’s a few tickets still available, so buy yours quickly!

The Terrace is also hosting two parties over the weekend, on Thursday and Saturday night, bringing a touch of Ibiza to Plymouth Hoe.

Celebrate with friends, family and neighbours

Traditional street parties will be springing up all over Plymouth, with 45 road closures planned over the weekend for communities to celebrate together safely. Check out the full list of roads and see if there’s a street party near you.

Visit Plymouth’s most regal setting

The historic Royal William Yard has lots going on this weekend, with live music on Friday night, a special Jubilee edition of the Good Food and Craft Market running across both Saturday and Sunday, and the return of the Native Makers market inside Ocean Studios. Find out more about what’s on at the Yard.

Indulge in traditional treats

Restaurants, cafes and bars across Plymouth are running lots of special offers this weekend – from amazing brunch parties to traditional afternoon teas. Or raise a glass to Her Majesty and celebrate the extra days off work with a drink at one of Plymouth’s best cocktail bars.

Plymouth is easily accessible by train with a wide range of services running from a variety of locations within England. Although some services may require a change or two.

Travelling from London takes around 3 hours with Great Western Railway, if you're coming from the north, the trip from Manchester can take 5 hours 15 minutes.

Alternatively, the recently renovated Night Riviera Sleeper service runs Monday – Friday and Sunday evenings. Visit gwr.com/sleeper for more details on times and how to book.

We recommend using GWR.com to search for the fastest and best route for your journey, and book in advance for the best price.
